Acid Gas & CO2 Storage

We create and provide information, knowledge and expertise on Alberta's potential for geological sequestration for greenhouse and acid gases (CO2 and H2S).

Activities include:

  • Characterizing sedimentary rock formations suitable for the safe, long-term disposal of acid gas.
  • Supporting the Energy Resources Conservation Board and the Alberta Department of Energy with geoscience information and expert advice to implement the policy and regulatory environment for the storage of greenhouse and acid gases.
  • Evaluating the suitability and capacity of Alberta’s deep saline aquifers, oil & gas reservoirs, salt beds and uneconomic coal seams for the safe, long-term and large-scale sequestration of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
