Description:
Abstract:
The AMDO (Alberta Mineral Deposits and Occurrences) application was created by the Minerals and Coal Geoscience Section of the Alberta Geological Survey as a database for mineral deposits in Alberta in the early 1990s. It was originally released as Open File Report OFR 91-17. Industrial minerals from that data source have been extracted into Microsoft Access, their locations refined or corrected and presented in GIS format.
Purpose:
For viewing and querying the industrial mineral digital data in GIS (geographic information systems) form.

Data Quality Information:
Logical Consistency Report:
This is a compilation of data from several different sources, both published and unpublished. In many cases deposits were described in their original sources using the Alberta Township System to reference locations. Every effort was made to ensure the points do plot in their respective ATS locations, as given in the attribute table.
Completeness Report:
Due to the technology used for the original implementation of this data set, values in some of the fields may have been truncated during the conversion to MSAccess, including: Mineral Analysis, Chemical Analysis, Physical Tests, and possibly others. Full references for each occurrence are in process, therefore are incomplete at this time.
Lineage:
Process Step:
Process Description:
Data were originally captured in digital format into Hypercard, an Apple MacIntosh (hierarchical) database application, and published in that format in 1993. Data were maintained in Hypercard until approximately 2001, when they were exported to Microsoft Excel for translation to MSAccess. It was at this point that some fields became truncated and some data were lost, due to a 256-character limit in Excel. The data were cleaned and corrected using other means, including text exports, however some errors are known to exist. Data were then imported into MSAccess, and in 2002-03 were plotted and checked against the provincial township fabric for location inaccuracies. These checks were done for each mineral occurrence using ArcView 3.2. This shapefile is prepared via a query of the Access database, for public distribution.
