"The Milepost," first published in 1949 as a 72-page guide to the rugged, year-old road through the Last Frontier, is the epitome of the latter. Named for the Alaska Highway's mile markers, the annual guide has grown to nearly 800 pages, covering Canada's Yukon Territory and western Northwest Territories as well as major access routes in British Columbia and Alberta.
