Gas Production from the Lower Mannville

Gas production from the Lower Mannville is widespnead throughout southern, central and western Alberta and northeast B.C. imunediately adjacent to the Peace River Block. There are many small fields which consist of numerous isolated gas pools. Negligible Lower Mannville gas production is found in northern Alberta, northernmost B.C or central or eastern Saskatchewan. Included are fields producing from the Ellerslie, Basal Quartz, Gething, Cadomin, Sunburst, McMurray, Dunlevy, Ostracod, Cut Bank, Cantuar Sand and Detrital.

There are 85 Lower Mannville gas fields, including 11 an B.C., with Initial Established Marketable Gas Reserves of over 1000 x 106m3 (35 BCF). The ten largest Lower Mannville gas fields, listed in order of Initial Established Marketable gas reserves, are shown rn Table 1. Cumulative production data for Alberta and British Columbia are updated to the end of 1990 and for Saskatchewan to the end of 1989.

All of these fields are in central or western Alberta except for Rigel and Buick Creek in B.C. Lower Mannville gas production is primarily derived from stratigraphic traps developed in valley-fill sands on the underlying Pre-Cretaceous unconformity.

Total recoverable gas reserves in the Lower Mannville ane estimated at 316.8 x 109m3, of which 81.6 x 109m3 have already been produced. Initial Estabhshed In-Place Volume of Lower Mannville gas reserves totals 476 x 109m3. There are a total of 4452 Lower Mannville gas pools, with an average 71 x 106m3 recoverable gas reserves/pool. Table 2 lists the distribution of Lower Mannville gas reserves according to In-Place Pool Size.
