Oil production from the Upper Mannville is concentrated in the Lloydminster Heavy
Oil area along the Alberta/Saskatchewan border, but is also widely distributed throughout
southern and central Alberta. Negligible Upper Mannville oil production occurs in
B.C. (except for Beatton River West field), northern Alberta or the rest of Saskatchewan.
Included are fields producing from the Colony, Mclaren, Waseca, Sparky, Wainwnght,
General Petroleum, Lloydmrnster, Glauconitic, Cummings and Bluesky.
There are 48 Upper Mannville oil fields (rncluding 19 an Saskatchewan and 1 in B.C.)
with Initial Established Recoverable Oil Reserves of over 1 x 106m3 (6 MMBbls). The ten largest Upper Mannville oil fields, listed in order of Initial
Established Recoverable Reserves, are shown in Table 1. Cumulative production data
for Alberta and British Columbia are updated to the end of 1990 and for Saskatchewan
to the end of 1989.

Nine of the above ten major fields (excluding Countess) are located in the Lloydminster
Heavy Oil area. All of the above ten fields contain heavy oil, with the exception
of Provost. Most, if not all, Upper Mannville oil fields are stratigraphic, and result
from facies changes due to shifting shorelines. There are a large number of smaller
fields extending from the Lloydminster area west to the Deep Basin, and consisting
of discontinuous elongate porous trends.
Total recoverable oil reserves in the Upper Mannville are estimated at 199 x 106m3,
of which 134 x 106m3 have already been produced. Initial Established
In-Place Volume of Upper Mannville oil reserves totals 2234 x 106m3.
There are 1248 Upper Mannville oil pools, with am average 160 x 103m3 recoverable oil reserves/pool. Table 2 lists the distribution of Upper Mannville
oil reserves according to In-Place Pool Size.
